The Originator — Fatir, the One who brings into being from nothing. Also called al-Mala'ikah, "the Angels", from the first verse.

Meccan. A surah of praise and of proportion — who needs whom.
✦ The story
It opens with angels having two, three, and four wings, and Allah adding to creation whatever He wills. Then a sentence that settles the whole relationship: *"O mankind, you are the ones in need of Allah, while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy."*
The surah is full of contrasts that refuse to flatten: the blind and the seeing, shade and heat, the living and the dead, two seas — one fresh and sweet, one salt and bitter — from both of which you eat fresh meat and extract ornaments. Difference is the point.
And it contains the Quran's definition of who actually fears Allah: *"Only those of His servants who have knowledge fear Allah."* Not the loudest. The ones who understand what they are dealing with.
