The Thunder — from verse 13, where the thunder itself glorifies Allah with praise, as do the angels in awe of Him.
✦ When it came
Classification is disputed among the early scholars — some read it as Meccan, others as Madinan. Its subject fits the long argument with those demanding a miracle they could see.
✦ The story
The surah answers a demand: *why has no sign been sent down to him from his Lord?* And its reply is to point at everything already there — mountains, rivers, fruit in pairs, adjoining plots of land watered by the same rain that grow different crops. Thunder and lightning, which frighten and which promise rain in the same instant.
Its most quoted line sits inside a passage about angels guarding a person front and back: *"Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."* Responsibility placed exactly where it can be acted on.
And its most consoling line closes the same movement: hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Not in explanation, not in proof — in remembrance.
