✦ AT A GLANCE ✦
قريش
Quraysh
✦ Why this name
Quraysh — the tribe of Makkah, named in the first verse.
✦ When it came
Meccan, and read as a continuation of Al-Fil: the House was protected, and this is what that protection bought.
✦ The story
Four verses, and they are about a trade route.
The Quraysh made two great caravan journeys a year — south to Yemen in winter, north to Syria in summer — and passed safely through territory where anyone else would have been robbed, because they were the keepers of the Sacred House.
*"For the accustoming of the Quraysh — their accustomed security in the caravan of winter and summer — let them worship the Lord of this House, who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear."*
Two gifts named exactly: food, and safety. And one conclusion drawn from them: so worship Him.

✦ Where it sits
Read immediately after Al-Fil — the elephant army destroyed, and the security that followed.
