Meccan. Reported to have been revealed about two tribes who competed over which had more members — and, when the living were counted, went to the graveyard to count their dead.

*"Competition in increase diverts you — until you visit the graveyards."*
Eight verses about the human habit of keeping score, and the only thing that ever interrupts it.
Then a warning repeated twice, and then a third time with a change: *"No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty…"* The surah names three levels of knowing — the knowledge of certainty, the eye of certainty, and finally the truth of certainty — and says you will reach the second by seeing it.
And its last verse is the one that stops most readers: *"Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure."* Every comfort you enjoyed, asked about. The Prophet ﷺ explained that this includes cool water and dates and shade.
