Surah Al-Infitar

Surah 82 · The Cleaving · 19 verses · meccan

The Cleaving — al-Infitar, the splitting open of the sky.

The story

Allah asks a very gentle question here: what made you forget Me? He calls Himself "the Generous" in the same sentence — the One who made you, shaped you, and put you together exactly right.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-5

    When the sky splits

Four events, and a soul knowing what it sent ahead and what it left behind.

  2. AYAH 6-8

    What deceived you

The Generous Lord who created, proportioned, and balanced you.

  3. AYAH 9-19

    The recorders

Noble scribes who know what you do, and a Day when no soul can help another.

Verses to carry

  • 82:6"O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous?"
  • 82:7"Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you."
  • 82:19"The command that Day is entirely with Allah."

Remember this

Allah made you exactly the way He wanted you. Nothing about you is a mistake.

Talk about it

Allah says He "proportioned" you — made every bit of you fit. What is your favourite thing about how you were made?
