Surah At-Takwir

Surah 81 · The Overthrowing · 29 verses · meccan

The Wrapping — at-Takwir, from the sun being wound up like a turban in the first verse.

The story

This surah describes the end of the world — the sun folding up, the stars falling. And right in the middle, Allah stops everything to ask about one little girl who was killed. Every single child matters that much to Allah.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-14

When the sun is wrapped up

Twelve one-line events, ending with each soul knowing what it brought.

  2. AYAH 8-9

    The buried girl

The question asked of her, not of her killers.

  3. AYAH 15-29

    Where are you going

The messenger defended, and "so where are you going?"

Verses to carry

  • 81:8"And when the girl buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed." The Quran stopping the end of the world to ask about one child.
  • 81:26"So where are you going?"
  • 81:14"A soul will know what it has brought with it."

Remember this

You matter to Allah more than the sun and the stars.

Talk about it

Allah stopped the whole end of the world to ask about one child. How does that make you feel?
