Surah An-Nazi'at
Surah 79 · Those who drag forth · 46 verses · meccan
Those Who Pull Out — an-Nazi'at, sworn by in the first verse.
The story
Allah sent Musa عليه السلام to the cruellest king on earth, and told him to start by asking a gentle question: "Would you like to become better?" Even with Pharaoh, Allah began with kindness.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-14
The oaths and the shaking
Hearts pounding, eyes downcast, and a single cry.
AYAH 15-26
Would you purify yourself
Musa's invitation to Pharaoh, and Pharaoh's claim.
AYAH 27-46
Are you harder to create
The sky raised and proportioned, and a lifetime that will feel like a single evening.
Verses to carry
- 79:18"Would you be willing to purify yourself?" How a prophet opens a conversation with a tyrant.
- 79:40"But as for he who feared standing before his Lord and restrained the soul from desire."
- 79:46A whole life felt as an evening or a single morning.
Remember this
The best way to help someone change is to invite them, not shout at them.
Talk about it
If you wanted a friend to stop doing something wrong, how would you say it?
