Surah Al-Qiyamah

Surah 75 · The Resurrection · 40 verses · meccan

The Resurrection — al-Qiyamah, sworn by in the opening verse.

The story

Allah swears by something surprising here: the little voice inside you that feels bad after you do something wrong. That voice is proof that there is a day when everything gets sorted out.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-15

    Two oaths

The Day, and the self-reproaching soul — and fingertips restored.

  2. AYAH 16-19

    Do not hurry your tongue

An instruction to the Prophet ﷺ placed inside the surah as it was being revealed.

  3. AYAH 20-25

    Radiant faces

Love of the immediate over the eternal — and faces looking at their Lord.

  4. AYAH 26-40

    The soul at the collarbone

The moment of death described, and the closing question about being left aimless.

Verses to carry

  • 75:2"And I swear by the self-reproaching soul." Conscience sworn by as evidence.
  • 75:22"Faces that Day will be radiant, looking at their Lord."
  • 75:36"Does man think that he will be left neglected?"

Remember this

That uncomfortable feeling after you do something wrong is a gift. It is Allah reminding you.

Talk about it

Do you get a funny feeling in your tummy when you have done something wrong? What is it telling you?
