Surah Al-Muzzammil
Surah 73 · The Enshrouded One · 20 verses · meccan
The Enwrapped One — al-Muzzammil, addressing the Prophet ﷺ as he lay wrapped in a cloak after an overwhelming experience.
The story
The very first thing Allah asked the Prophet ﷺ to do was not to give speeches — it was to stand and pray at night when everything is quiet. That is where he got his strength from.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-9
Stand at night
The command, its proportions, and the reason the night is different.
AYAH 10-19
Be patient with what they say
A beautiful separation from those who deny, and a warning stated briefly.
AYAH 20
The concession
The obligation lightened — illness, travel, and work all named.
Verses to carry
- 73:6"Indeed, the rising by night is stronger in impression and more suitable for words."
- 73:8"Remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with complete devotion."
- 73:20"So recite what is easy from it." The obligation scaled to real lives.
Remember this
Do what is easy for you. Allah lightened the night prayer because He knows people get tired.
Talk about it
What is your quietest time of day? What could you do with it?
