Surah Nuh

Surah 71 · Noah · 28 verses · meccan

Noah — the whole surah is his story and, mostly, his own words.

The story

Nuh عليه السلام tried to tell his people about Allah for 950 years — in the day, at night, in front of everyone and quietly one by one. Hardly anyone listened. But he never gave up.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-9

    Night and day

Public and private, every method tried, and fingers put in ears.

  2. AYAH 10-20

    Ask forgiveness

Rain, wealth, children, gardens and rivers — offered as the fruit of istighfar.

  3. AYAH 21-28

    The du'a at the end

For his parents, for whoever enters his house believing, and for all believing men and women.

Verses to carry

  • 71:10"Ask forgiveness of your Lord; indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver."
  • 71:11"He will send rain from the sky upon you in abundance." Istighfar tied to provision.
  • 71:13"What is the matter with you, that you do not attribute to Allah due grandeur?"

Remember this

Saying "astaghfirullah" — asking Allah to forgive you — brings good things, not just forgiveness.

Talk about it

Nuh عليه السلام kept trying for 950 years. What is something you find hard to keep trying at?
