Surah Al-Haqqah

Surah 69 · The Reality · 52 verses · meccan

The Inevitable Reality — al-Haqqah, a name for the Day of Judgement: the thing that is certain.

The story

On the Last Day, everyone gets a book of everything they did. Some people will be so happy they will shout: "Come and read my book!" This surah says one of the things that ruins a person is not caring whether poor people have food.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-12

    What is the Reality

The name repeated, then Thamud, 'Ad, Pharaoh, and the ark that carried the survivors.

  2. AYAH 13-18

    The Day

One blast, the earth crushed, the sky split, and the Throne borne by eight.

  3. AYAH 19-37

    Two records

"Here, read my record" — and the man who wishes it had all ended at death.

  4. AYAH 38-52

    Not a poet's word

The source of the revelation defended by an oath on what you see and what you do not.

Verses to carry

  • 69:19"Here, read my record!" — the joy of someone who finds out it went well.
  • 69:34"Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor." Named as a cause of ruin, beside disbelief.
  • 69:24"Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

Remember this

Caring about hungry people is not extra. Allah lists it right next to believing in Him.

Talk about it

If your day was written in a book, what would you want it to say?
