Surah At-Talaq

Surah 65 · The Divorce · 12 verses · medinan

The Divorce — at-Talaq, which sets out the procedure in detail. It is also called "the short Surat an-Nisa".

The story

This surah is about what happens when a family breaks up, and it is full of rules to make sure nobody is treated badly. And right in the middle, Allah promises: whoever is careful with Allah, He will open a door for them that they never expected.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-2

    Counting and housing

The waiting period, staying in the home, witnesses required — and the way out promised.

  2. AYAH 2-3

From where he does not expect

Provision and relief for whoever keeps their duty to Allah.

  3. AYAH 6-7

    Nursing and maintenance

Payment for nursing, consultation between parents, and spending according to means.

Verses to carry

  • 65:2"Whoever fears Allah — He will make for him a way out."
  • 65:3"And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah — He is sufficient for him."
  • 65:7"Allah will bring about ease after hardship."

Remember this

When you cannot see any way out of a problem, Allah can open a door you did not know was there.
