Surah At-Taghabun

Surah 64 · The Mutual Disillusion · 18 verses · medinan

The Mutual Loss and Gain — at-Taghabun, the Day when it becomes clear who gained and who lost.

The story

When something bad happens, this surah says: nothing happens without Allah allowing it, and if you believe in Him, He will guide your heart through it. He does not always take the hard thing away — He helps you carry it.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-10

    Everything glorifies Him

Creation in truth, forms made good, and the Day of mutual loss and gain.

  2. AYAH 11-13

    Guided through it

Nothing strikes without permission, and hearts guided by belief.

  3. AYAH 14-18

    Family as a trial

Wealth and children as a test, pardon urged, and the command scaled to capacity.

Verses to carry

  • 64:11"No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah — and whoever believes in Allah, He will guide his heart."
  • 64:16"So fear Allah as much as you are able." Obligation scaled to what a person can actually do.
  • 64:14Family named as a possible trial, and pardon commanded in the same verse.

Remember this

Allah only ever asks you to try as much as you are able. That is all.

Talk about it
