The Hypocrites — al-Munafiqun, named for the group it describes.
The story
Some people look impressive and talk beautifully, but inside there is nothing real. Allah says they are like wooden planks propped up against a wall — they look like they are holding something up, but they are not.

Oaths as a shield
Impressive forms, persuasive speech — and propped-up timber.
AYAH 5-8
Refusing to be forgiven
Heads turned away when forgiveness is offered, and the boast about expelling the humble.
AYAH 9-11
Do not be diverted
Wealth and children as distraction, and the plea for a little more time.
Verses to carry
- 63:9"Let not your wealth or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah."
- 63:10"My Lord, if only You would delay me a brief term, so I could give charity." The wish no one gets granted.
- 63:4"They are as propped-up timber."
