Surah Al-Waqi'ah

Surah 56 · The Inevitable · 96 verses · meccan

The Inevitable Event — al-Waqi'ah, the Hour that will certainly occur.

The story

This surah asks you brilliant questions: when you plant a seed, do *you* make it grow? When you strike a match, did *you* make the tree the wood came from? Everything we use, Allah made first.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-56

    Three groups

The foremost, the right, and the left — described separately and at length.

  2. AYAH 57-73

    Three questions

The seed, the crop, the fire — each traced back past human hands.

  3. AYAH 74-96

    A noble Quran

In a well-guarded register — and the soul at the throat while onlookers can do nothing.

Verses to carry

  • 56:63"Have you seen that which you sow? Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?"
  • 56:83The soul reaching the throat while everyone watches, unable to do a thing.
  • 56:96"So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great."

Remember this

You did not make a single thing you depend on. All of it is a gift.

Talk about it

Plant a seed and watch it. Who makes it grow?
