Surah Adh-Dhariyat
Surah 51 · The Winnowing Winds · 60 verses · meccan
The Scattering Winds — adh-Dhariyat, sworn by in the opening verse.
The story
Allah tells us here exactly why we are here: to know Him and worship Him. And He reminds us that everything we need comes from Him — He does not need anything from us at all.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-23
Oaths and the promise
Winds and ships sworn by, and provision located in the heaven, not in people's hands.
AYAH 24-37
Guests who do not eat
Ibrahim's hospitality, the news of a son, and the errand the guests were actually on.
AYAH 56-58
Why you are here
The purpose of creation, and Allah's complete independence of it.
Verses to carry
- 51:56"I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."
- 51:22"And in the heaven is your provision, and whatever you are promised."
- 51:50"So flee to Allah." The only flight that is not running away.
Remember this
Your food, your home, everything you need — Allah is the one who sends it.
Talk about it
If Allah does not need anything from us, why do you think He asks us to pray?
