Surah Qaf

Surah 50 · The Letter "Qaf" · 45 verses · meccan

Qaf — a single letter opening the surah, whose meaning is left with Allah.

The story

Allah says He is closer to you than the vein in your own neck. He also has two angels writing down everything you say — one on your right for good things, one on your left.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-15

    They wondered

Surprise at a warner from among themselves, answered by the sky, the earth, and the palm trees.

  2. AYAH 16-18

    Nearer than the vein

Allah's nearness, and the two recorders on either side.

  3. AYAH 19-35

    Death and the Day

The stupor of death, the horn, and each soul arriving with a driver and a witness.

  4. AYAH 36-45

    Remind, do not compel

Ruins of stronger peoples, and the Prophet ﷺ told he is not a tyrant over anyone.

Verses to carry

  • 50:16"We are closer to him than his jugular vein."
  • 50:18"Not a word does he utter but there is an observer prepared."
  • 50:37"Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart, or listens while he is present in mind."

Remember this

Allah is never far away. He is closer to you than you are to yourself.

Talk about it

If an angel writes down everything you say, what would you like tomorrow's page to look like?
