Surah Al-Jathiyah
Surah 45 · The Crouching · 37 verses · meccan
The Kneeling — al-Jathiyah, from verse 28, where every nation is seen kneeling as its record is brought.
The story
This surah asks us to look around and think: who made the animals, the rain, the day and night? And it warns about people who only ever do whatever they feel like — because then their own wanting becomes the boss of them.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-13
Signs for those who reason
Creation, animals, night and day, rain, the winds — the sea subjected so ships may run.
AYAH 24-26
Nothing but time
The claim quoted and answered.
AYAH 23
Desire as a god
The verse naming what replaces Allah when Allah is refused.
AYAH 27-37
Every nation kneeling
Records brought, and a book that speaks the truth about what was done.
Verses to carry
- 45:23"Have you seen the one who takes his own desire as his god?"
- 45:13"He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth — all from Him."
- 45:24The claim of pure materialism, quoted in its own words and then answered.
Remember this
Doing whatever you want whenever you want is not freedom. It is being bossed around by your own wishes.
Talk about it
What is something you wanted really badly, but it was better that you did not get it?
