Surah Ad-Dukhan

The Smoke — ad-Dukhan, from verse 10, a visible smoke described as a sign of a coming affliction.

The story

This surah talks about the special blessed night when the Quran was first sent down — the night we look for in Ramadan. It also reminds us that Allah did not make the whole universe as a game.

The blessed night
The night of revelation, on which every wise matter is decided.

The smoke
A haze covering the people, and a plea for relief.

Pharaoh, and an unmoved sky
Rescue at the sea, and the line about heaven and earth not weeping for them.

Not created in play
The heavens and earth not made as amusement, and the Day of Separation.

44:3"We sent it down on a blessed night." The night Laylat al-Qadr is sought.
44:29"And the heaven and earth wept not for them." Power ending without ceremony.
44:38"We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in play."
