Surah As-Saffat
Surah 37 · Those who set the Ranks · 182 verses · meccan
Those Ranged in Ranks — the angels standing in rows, sworn by in the opening verse.
The story
Ibrahim عليه السلام waited his whole life for a son. Then Allah tested him with the hardest thing imaginable — and he told his son the truth about it. His son said: "Do what Allah told you." Allah stopped them both and sent a ram instead. We remember it every Eid al-Adha.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-70
The ranks and the guarded sky
Angels in rows, the heavens guarded, and a conversation in the next life between a believer and an old companion.
AYAH 99-113
Ibrahim and his son
The dream, the conversation, the submission of both, and the ransom.
AYAH 139-148
Yunus on the shore
The lot cast, the fish, the illness, and a plant grown to shade him.
AYAH 180-182
Glory to your Lord
The three closing verses, used as a supplication at the end of gatherings.
