Surah Ya-Sin

Surah 36 · Ya Sin · 83 verses · meccan

Ya-Sin — two letters opening the surah, whose meaning is left with Allah. It is widely known as "the heart of the Quran".

The story

A whole town refused to listen to Allah's messengers. One man ran all the way from the far end of the city to tell everyone to listen. They hurt him for it — and even then, all he wished was that they knew how kind Allah had been to him.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-12

    The oath

The messenger confirmed, and the record of what people send ahead and leave behind.

  2. AYAH 13-32

    The man who came running

A town, its messengers, and one believer who spoke up and paid for it.

  3. AYAH 33-44

    Signs everywhere

Dead earth, night and day, the sun and the moon each in an orbit, ships that carry.

  4. AYAH 77-83

    The crumbling bone

The objection answered — and creation reduced to a single word.

Verses to carry

  • 36:82"His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it: Be — and it is."
  • 36:58"Peace — a word from a Merciful Lord." The greeting of Paradise, in two words.
  • 36:26"I wish my people knew how my Lord has forgiven me." Said by a man they had just killed.

Remember this

When Allah wants something to happen, He only has to say "Be" — and it is.

Talk about it

The man kept wishing good for the people who hurt him. Could you do that?
