Surah Al-Ahzab
Surah 33 · The Combined Forces · 73 verses · medinan
The Combined Forces — al-Ahzab, the confederate armies that besieged Madinah in the battle of the Trench.
The story
Ten thousand soldiers came to attack Madinah. The Muslims dug a huge trench around the city, and the Prophet ﷺ dug it with them — hungry, carrying stones, just like everyone else. Then Allah sent a great wind and the armies went home.
How it unfolds

The wind and the unseen forces sent, the fear described plainly, and the confederates turning back with nothing.
AYAH 21
The excellent example
The Prophet ﷺ named as the pattern — revealed while he dug the trench with everyone else.
AYAH 28-40
The household
A choice offered to his wives, adoption reformed, and the Seal of the Prophets.
AYAH 35
Men and women, named together
Ten qualities listed for both, in identical terms.
AYAH 70-73
The trust
Say what is right; and the trust the heavens and mountains declined, which humanity took on.

Remember this
The best leaders do the hard work alongside everyone else.
Talk about it
The Prophet ﷺ could have watched other people dig. Why do you think he picked up a shovel himself?
