Surah As-Sajdah

Surah 32 · The Prostration · 30 verses · meccan

The Prostration — from verse 15, at which the reciter and listener prostrate.

The story

This surah describes people who get out of their warm beds at night just to pray to Allah. And Allah says He has hidden a surprise reward for them that nobody has ever been told about.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-11

    Creation and return

From clay, then a lineage, then the spirit — and a day whose measure is a thousand years.

  2. AYAH 15-17

    Sides that leave their beds

Those who rise at night, and the reward no soul has been told about.

  3. AYAH 25-30

    Dead land revived

Water driven to barren land, crops that feed both cattle and people — the argument for resurrection.

Verses to carry

  • 32:16"Their sides forsake their beds, calling upon their Lord in fear and hope."
  • 32:17"No soul knows what comfort of the eyes has been hidden for them." A reward kept deliberately secret.
  • 32:9"He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts — little are you grateful."

Remember this

Allah gave you ears, eyes, and a heart. Saying thank you for them is part of using them well.

Talk about it

Allah is keeping a surprise for good people that nobody knows about. What do you imagine it might be?
