Surah Ar-Ra'd
Surah 13 · The Thunder · 43 verses · medinan
The Thunder — from verse 13, where the thunder itself glorifies Allah with praise, as do the angels in awe of Him.
The story
People asked for a big magic sign to prove Allah is real. The surah answers by pointing at the sky held up without any poles, at rivers, at fruit, and at thunder — all of it made by Allah, all of it praising Him.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-4
Signs already given
The sky raised without pillars, rivers, fruit in pairs — and neighbouring plots that drink the same water and yield differently.
AYAH 8-16
What Allah knows
Every pregnancy, every increase and decrease; thunder glorifying Him, and the shadows bowing.
AYAH 11
Change begins inside
The verse about a people's condition and what they hold within themselves.
AYAH 19-29
Hearts at rest
The people of understanding, what they keep and what they join — and the remembrance in which hearts settle.
Verses to carry
- 13:28"Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest."
- 13:11"Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."
- 13:17The parable of the flood and the froth: what is useless is swept away, what benefits people remains in the earth.
Remember this
When your heart feels worried, remembering Allah is what makes it calm again.
