Surah An-Nas
Surah 114 · Mankind · 6 verses · meccan
Mankind — an-Nas, the last surah of the Quran.
The story
This is the very last surah in the Quran. It teaches you to ask Allah to protect you from the sneaky voice that whispers bad ideas into your heart and then hides — and it says that voice can come from jinn *or* from people.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-3
Three titles
Lord, King, God of mankind — escalating claims on the same audience.
AYAH 4-5
The whisperer
The one who whispers and withdraws, into the chests of people.
AYAH 6
Jinn and mankind
The last words of the Quran, naming both sources.
Verses to carry
- 114:4"From the evil of the retreating whisperer."
- 114:5"Who whispers into the breasts of mankind."
- 114:6"From among the jinn and mankind." The Quran's final words.
Remember this
Not every idea in your head is yours. Some are whispers. Ask Allah to keep them away.
Talk about it
The Quran starts by asking Allah to guide us and ends by asking Him to protect us. Why do you think it ends that way?
