Surah Al-Masad
Surah 111 · The Palm Fiber · 5 verses · meccan
The Palm Fibre — al-Masad, the rope of twisted fibre described in the last verse.
The story
The Prophet's ﷺ own uncle was horrible to him, and his wife used to put thorns on the path where the Prophet ﷺ walked so he would hurt his feet. Allah revealed a whole surah about it — being related to someone good does not make you good.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-2
Ruined hands
Wealth and gains declared useless.
AYAH 3-5
The carrier of firewood
The thorns carried in this life becoming a load in the next.
Verses to carry
- 111:2"His wealth will not avail him, nor what he gained."
- 111:4"And his wife, the carrier of firewood."
Remember this
Being someone's relative does not make you good. What you do does.
