Surah Al-Humazah

Surah 104 · The Traducer · 9 verses · meccan

The Slanderer — al-Humazah, the one who mocks with gestures and with words.

The story

This surah is about someone who makes fun of people — with words, and with faces and eye-rolls. Allah says: woe to them. Making fun of people is a serious thing, not a joke.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1

    The mocker

Scorn by tongue and by gesture.

  2. AYAH 2-4

    Counting it over

Wealth gathered and counted, mistaken for immortality.

  3. AYAH 5-9

    Directed at the hearts

A fire that reaches for the part he used to wound.

Verses to carry

  • 104:1"Woe to every scorner and mocker."
  • 104:3"He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal."
  • 104:7"Which mounts directed at the hearts."

Remember this

Pulling faces at someone counts too. Not just words.

Talk about it

Have you ever laughed at someone? How do you think they felt?
