Surah At-Takathur

Surah 102 · The Rivalry in world increase · 8 verses · meccan

Competition for More — at-Takathur, piling up and outdoing one another.

The story

People spend their whole lives trying to have more than each other — more toys, more money, more everything. This surah says: and it keeps you busy right until you die. Allah will ask us about every nice thing we enjoyed.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-2

    Keeping score

Competition in increase, interrupted only by the graveyard.

  2. AYAH 3-7

    If you only knew

The warning repeated, and the levels of certainty.

  3. AYAH 8

    Asked about pleasure

    Every comfort accounted for.

Verses to carry

  • 102:1"Competition in increase diverts you."
  • 102:2"Until you visit the graveyards."
  • 102:8"Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure."

Remember this

Even a cold drink of water is something to say thank you for.

Talk about it

Do you ever compare what you have with what your friends have? How does that feel?
