Surah Al-'Adiyat

Surah 100 · The Courser · 11 verses · meccan

The Racers — al-'Adiyat, the charging horses sworn by in the opening verses.

The story

This surah starts like an action film — horses galloping, sparks flying from their hooves, dust everywhere. Then it stops and says: people forget to say thank you to Allah. And they know they do.

How it unfolds

  1. AYAH 1-5

    The charge

Five oaths of motion, sound, and dust.

  2. AYAH 6-8

    Ungrateful, and he knows it

Ingratitude admitted by the person himself, and intense love of wealth.

  3. AYAH 9-11

    What is in the chests

Graves scattered and hearts brought into the open.

Verses to carry

  • 100:6"Indeed, mankind is ungrateful to his Lord."
  • 100:7"And indeed, he is a witness to that." You know when you are being ungrateful.
  • 100:10"And that within the breasts is obtained."

Remember this

On the Last Day, what is inside your heart comes out where everyone can see it.
