Surah Al-'Adiyat
Surah 100 · The Courser · 11 verses · meccan
The Racers — al-'Adiyat, the charging horses sworn by in the opening verses.
The story
This surah starts like an action film — horses galloping, sparks flying from their hooves, dust everywhere. Then it stops and says: people forget to say thank you to Allah. And they know they do.
How it unfolds
AYAH 1-5
The charge
Five oaths of motion, sound, and dust.
AYAH 6-8
Ungrateful, and he knows it
Ingratitude admitted by the person himself, and intense love of wealth.
AYAH 9-11
What is in the chests
Graves scattered and hearts brought into the open.
Verses to carry
- 100:6"Indeed, mankind is ungrateful to his Lord."
- 100:7"And indeed, he is a witness to that." You know when you are being ungrateful.
- 100:10"And that within the breasts is obtained."
Remember this
On the Last Day, what is inside your heart comes out where everyone can see it.
Talk about it
What is something you have not said alhamdulillah for today?
